Here's why you should rebuild your PS4 database regularly

Do you think there isn’t any maintenance involved when you own a console? Think again…

It’s really not a bad idea to rebuild your PS4’s database on a regular basis, but you’ve got to make sure you’re doing it correctly. The good news is that it’s super easy to do. As long as you don’t panic and turn off your system halfway through, you should be all set. If you do it correctly, it’s totally safe and will improve your performance. If you use your PS4 all the time, you could even do this as often as every month or two, any more than that might be overkill. If you keep your hard drive really full a lot of the time, it can be putting a real damper on your system’s ability to locate files and access them quickly, which slows things down[1].

Rebuilding the database can also help with a number of other issues, like DLC[2] that’s not working correctly, games that stutter during cutscenes, games taking forever to load, and even some disc drive issues.

The first thing you’ve got to do is boot up your PS4 in safe mode. To do this, switch off your system using the power button on the front. Hold down the power button until you hear two beeps, it’ll take a few seconds. Connect your controller[3] via USB, and turn it on. In safe mode, there will be an option called “Rebuild Database.”

After selecting Rebuild Database, it’s waiting time. It could go quickly, or it could take hours, depending on how bad it’s gotten.

When it’s done, your PS4 will restarted itself and your database will be organized perfectly.
