Here's why you should rebuild your PS4 database regularly
Do you think there isnât any maintenance involved when you own a console? Think againâ¦
Itâs really not a bad idea to rebuild your PS4âs database on a regular basis, but youâve got to make sure youâre doing it correctly. The good news is that itâs super easy to do. As long as you donât panic and turn off your system halfway through, you should be all set. If you do it correctly, itâs totally safe and will improve your performance. If you use your PS4 all the time, you could even do this as often as every month or two, any more than that might be overkill. If you keep your hard drive really full a lot of the time, it can be putting a real damper on your systemâs ability to locate files and access them quickly, which slows things down[1].
Rebuilding the database can also help with a number of other issues, like DLC[2] thatâs not working correctly, games that stutter during cutscenes, games taking forever to load, and even some disc drive issues.
How to rebuild your PS4 database
The first thing youâve got to do is boot up your PS4 in safe mode. To do this, switch off your system using the power button on the front. Hold down the power button until you hear two beeps, itâll take a few seconds. Connect your controller[3] via USB, and turn it on. In safe mode, there will be an option called âRebuild Database.â
After selecting Rebuild Database, itâs waiting time. It could go quickly, or it could take hours, depending on how bad itâs gotten.
When itâs done, your PS4 will restarted itself and your database will be organized perfectly.
